This was produced for the 2006 Penmorfa MRC Show to be held at Penmorfa, near Porthmadog, North Wales on Sunday and Monday 28 and 29 May.
I attended the show to launch this wagon.
"Eifionyd" is pronounced "I von id" (loosely, my Welsh is not good)
The Farmer's Association was based in Pwllheli and these wagons were used to send out their produce to England using the Cambrian Coast and the route across mid-Wales to Shrewsbury. They also probably used the LNWR route from Afonwen up to Caernarfon and the North Welsh coast to get to their markets.
No doubt coal and other goods were shipped in by return. Being an open coal wagon, it is probable for this purpose the wagons were intended.
The photograph show the wagon fresh from the works(!) - of which 117 wagons have been produced. The last one was sold on 25 January 2007.
