This was a 4-wheel milk tanker model produced when Dapol had only got this version. Not long afterwards all production of the 4-wheel tankers was ceased when it was discovered that the mouldings were not theirs! (I'm sure there's a story lurking there somewhere).
At the time I ordered these, Buffers of Axminster wanted to do the same, but I pipped them to it. However as they decided to do an "Express Dairies" version, we swapped a box load of them. This gave rise to variations as I applied running numbers on the tank ends, whereas Buffers had ladders fixed to theirs.
Consequently it is possible to get these tankers with either ladders, or running numbers.
175 of these United Dairies tankers were produced in September 2004.
When I later attempted to get the same design put onto Dapol's 6-wheel tanker, I was not allowed to as they planned on issueing it themselves.
