As usual each year I produce a wagon for friends and relatives to give the railway modeller/collector as a gift for Christmas.

This year, Christmas 2010, I have chosen a coal merchant with an unusual name of John Kerkin, based at Morriston, Swansea (now better known as the HQ of the DVLA).

There were two railways passing through Morriston, the Swansea Vale and the GWR - this coal merchant was based on the latter.  The station was a terminus from its opening in 1881 with trains coming up from Swansea Llandore.  In 1914 the line was extended up to join the swansea District Line at Felin Fran West Junction.  Stations on this line were closed in 1956, but I think some would welcome them back now.  Indeed there are plans to re-open parts of the Swansea Vale route to a tram system that would go up to Gurnos and across to Ammanford!  I suspect that in these straightened times, that's not going to happen for a long time.

This wagon was delivered to me in early December and 90 pristine and 20 weathered versions were produced - these weathered ones though were all sold out by Christmas.  It was also produced in 00 gauge.
