Having experienced KATO's N-gauge track system, I now am stocking their HO track equivalent.

All this track system clips in with each other - and any electrics, like in the points, where appropriate, have been hidden inside the 'ballast' - very clever.

Although it is HO gauge, British 00 gauge items run on it smoothly.  The track width is the same, but the scale of HO models is 1:84, whilst 00 models are 1:76

If starting from scratch, or wishing to relay your old track system, this is the way to go!
